A New Painting Project to Help Marine Life

Oh the Potential of a brand new painting surface!

I’m excited to be starting this new painting project today, on a pristine wooden board! I’m creating an experimental surface as an underlayer for my painting of the reef and fish, for a special purpose - more about that later. Here I am with my Reef design apron (how appropriate), getting my hands dirty to create a texture layer out of up-cycled materials and gesso.

After a couple of hours of teasing around the texture materials, I was getting close to what I wanted, and my hands were completely covered in white - even after three washing sessions, I still had a new manicure!

I’ll be documenting my progress on this special piece, so keep an eye out for further blogs about the reference source for my inspiration and how this painting will be raising funds to help the work of the White River Fish Sanctuary, in conjunction with Jamaica Inn’s environmental efforts.

Thanks for your interest in conserving marine life.

Talk soon,

Susan
